ABOUT

About

Hello,

I’m Justin. I have been working in the mental health field since 1999 with multiple issues and clientele from adolescents, adults, addictions, families, couples, anger and rage issues, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and grief issues.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Service Provider in the state of Tennessee. I also spent over 3 years of training with Patrick Carnes in addition to guidance with a certified supervisor to obtain CSAT status (Certified Sex Addiction Therapist.)  As a CSAT, I am not only trained to work with sex addiction but also the traumas and underlying issues that help feed addictions and other obstacles that interfere with having a happy life. I am trained in EMDR, Brainspotting and Experiential Therapy and incorporate these modalities into therapy when appropriate.

I am a member of the Nashville Psychotherapy Institute, which is an organization of Nashville Mental Health Professionals dedicated to furthering education and training of Psychotherapist and other Mental Health Professionals in the Nashville area.  I am also a member of the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals, which is an organization helped set up by Patrick Carnes to help further educate and train therapists across the country and the world.

Along with having a private practice, I am married to a great woman, have two puppies and am the father of the two cutest kids in the world.

Sessions

If you are struggling in life and would like to work on getting back or creating the life you deserve, this may be the needed step for you. I work with trauma, anxiety, confidence issues, depression, grief issues, addictions, betrayal in marriages, and the negative core beliefs that keep us from being our true selves.

I work with individuals and couples in 90 minutes sessions. Why 90 minute sessions? I have found that individuals tend to be more at ease knowing they have time to discuss and process without having to feel rushed in an hour. I want to make every client feel comfortable and given the appropriate time to work on their given issue at hand. Sessions are $190 for 90 minutes.

If you would like to schedule an appointment, please feel free to call or email me. You may want to talk with me for help in your decision making, as I know that going to see a stranger to talk about your life issues is not an easy thing to do. You may even want to talk to a few therapists before making your decision. Please feel free to call me ... I look forward to hearing from you.

Clients

If you are struggling in life and would like to work on getting back or creating the life you deserve, therapy may be the needed step for you. I work with trauma, anxiety, confidence issues, depression, grief issues, addictions, betrayal in marriages, and the negative core beliefs that keep us from being our true selves. There are a variety of resources locally, through books, in person, via online support groups and nationally through today’s technology. In sessions, we can discuss which resources will be best for you.

There are more specific resources listed below but are not the entirety of what is out there. Together we can work to find what will be most helpful for you.

For Partners and Spouses of a Sex Addict

It is just as important that the partner of an addict take care of themselves and seek helpful resources, including therapy, as they are experiencing a betrayal so deep that it can cause Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Some recommended books include:

Gay Men

For gay men, this is a new and exciting time with new legislation recognizing gay marriage. However, as more and more couples begin to make steps towards marriage and unresolved underlying issues emerge, they are experiencing the pain and heartache of betrayal more often. It is important for a gay man to be heard and understood as they face stigmas from the hetero society, as well as pressures and stereotypes from within the gay culture.

Some recommended books include:

Trauma

Research is revealing more and more outcomes that link trauma and underlying issues that fuel addictions, depression, anxiety, and self-esteem issues. Trauma and other underlying issues are not always physical or sexual abuse but can be more passive and subtle in nature such as: physical or emotional neglect, abandonment, or being “adult-ified” as a child (which means you had to grow up too fast). When these events happen in our lives, we can learn faulty messages about ourselves and the world around us. Suffering and misery happens when we continue to act on these old learned faulty belief structures. In therapy, we work together to relearn healthier ways of responding to relationships with ourselves, others, and the world around us through learning what the old beliefs are and building new, healthier, and more functional core beliefs.
